How to burn candles? Best tips and tricks

Each of us has been enchanted by the magic of candles at least once. Scented candles smell great, look great and help you relax and unwind. In order to fully use their potential, it is very important to follow the basic rules of safe use when using aromatherapy candles and traditional unscented candles.

How to burn candles? Best tips and tricks

  • Trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting the candle. The most convenient way to cut the wick is to use a wick trimmer, which additionally protects the candle surface against contamination with the charred part of the wick. Trimming the wick extends the life of the candle.
  • If the candle flame is too big, it may be time to trim the wick. To do this, first safely extinguish the candle and let it cool down for a while. Then cut the wick to the recommended length of about 5 mm.
  • Never leave a lit candle unattended.
  • Place the candle on a non-flammable base for greater safety.
  • Do not light a candle on the windowsill. Not only can the curtains catch fire due to the flame of the candle, but also because of the draft, the fire can spread throughout the room. No matter where you light your candle, keep it away from flammable materials and where it can't accidentally fall.
  • If you have small children or pets at home, be especially careful and do not leave them alone with a lit candle.
  • Never blow out a candle. Use a candle extinguisher or wick extractor. Oxygen must be cut off to extinguish the flame.

Care instructions for scented candles

To make your favorite scented candle last as long as possible, remember to follow these candle burning tips:

  • Trimming the wick before each lighting will allow you to extend the burning time. A wick that is too long causes the wax to burn faster, so the candle will burn out faster.
  • When not in use, keep the candle closed and in a cool, dry place. Too high a temperature may cause diffusion of the fragrance from the upper layers of the candle if the candle is not closed. If the candle is exposed to direct sunlight, it may adversely affect the to the color of the wax causing its discoloration.
  • Respect the recommended single burning time of the candle. Pro tip: burn the candle until the wax melts over the entire surface of the vessel. If you burn the candle for a shorter time, a kind of funnel may form on its surface, and unmelted wax will remain on the sides. This phenomenon is called tunneling the candle and can even flood the wick.
