How to remove wax residue from a candle? Two popular ways

Sometimes you feel like reusing candle glass, but you don't know how to remove wax remnants? We come to the rescue! Learn simple and effective ways to remove wax residue from a candle and reuse the container.

How to remove wax residue from a glass candle?

There are two basic ways to remove wax residue from a candle in glass, metal can or ceramic. Remember, however, that either method may result in damage to the container, so use it at your own risk.

Method one: use cold to remove wax

1. Place the candle glass or metal can in the freezer for about 2 - 3 hours.
2. Remove the container from the freezer and use a small knife (it's best to use a wooden one, especially if the glass is decorated on the inside!) to gently pry out the frozen wax. It should break easily into smaller pieces.
3. Remove any wax residue from the bottom of the candle.
4. Wash the container inside and out using a slightly warm sponge or cloth to remove any wax or oil residues. Remember to wash the container only when it has thawed a little.
5. Reuse your candle jar!

Method two: use heat to remove the wax

1. Place the candle glass or metal can on a heat-resistant tray or simply in the kitchen sink.
2. Pour very warm (even hot!) water into the container and leave for 12 - 24 hours. Remember that different waxes dissolve at different temperatures, for example some vegetable waxes already at about 40 - 50 degrees Celsius, while paraffin or beeswax dissolves at a minimum of 60 - 70 degrees Celsius.
3. After the time has elapsed, the wax should float to the top of the candle. Simply remove it with your hand.
4. Wash the container inside and out using a slightly warm sponge or cloth to remove any wax or oil residues.
5. Reuse your candle jar!
