What is scented wax melt?

Scented wax melt is vegetable or mineral wax with the addition of aromatic oils. We place such wax in an aromatherapy burner and after melting, the wax begins to release a beautiful scent in the room. After a certain period of time, the wax loses its smell - then it's time to replace the wax with a new one. Waxes made of pure palm wax in the form of scented sand are interesting and very easy to use.

What are the types of scented wax melts and which should I choose?

Scented wax melts come in various sizes and are made of various raw materials. We can find waxes made of paraffin wax, such as Yankee Candle and Kringle Candle waxes, and waxes made of natural vegetable wax, such as soy wax. There are also waxes with the addition of pure essential oils, such as the scented wax melts from the Essential Elements collection by Candle-lite.

Scented wax melts made from paraffin wax dissolve slower in the fireplace than scented waxes made from vegetable waxes. Scented wax melts made from vegetable waxes dissolve faster and do not crumble like paraffin waxes. The durability of the scent depends on the brand and ranges from several to several dozen hours for one piece. We can dose the intensity of the scent ourselves by simply placing more wax in the scent burner (some manufacturers provide the recommended amount of wax, e.g. one cube or 1/3 of the package). How to use scented waxes?

We use scented waxes very simply - we place the selected amount of scented wax in the scented burner. Place an unscented tealight at the bottom of the fireplace and light it. The heat from the candle melts the wax and releases the fragrance. You can choose from tea lights made of 100% paraffin or soy wax. After a while, the scented wax will begin to release a beautiful scent.

How much scented wax should I use at once?

It all depends on the brand and the expected intensity of the scent. We recommend starting with a smaller amount so as not to overdo it. If the wax comes in a graduated package, start with one piece (e.g. a block of wax).

How long should you use scented wax at one time?

Basically, you can smoke it for as long as you want until the scent runs out. Typically, most people burn scented waxes for about 4 hours at a time, as a good quality tea light is enough. If such a single burning time is too short for you, try heaters with an extended burning time of up to 8 hours.

If the wax in the fireplace still has a smell, but you know that you will not use it for some time, it is a good idea to wrap the fireplace bowl with foil and put it in a dark, cool place. This will reduce the diffusion of the scent and the wax will last longer.

How to remove scented wax from a fireplace?

There are several proven ways to remove scented wax from a fireplace. The first and most popular is to turn off the heater and wait until the scented wax begins to solidify in the fireplace. Remove this warm, slightly hardened wax with your hand or a paper towel, and wash off any wax remnants. The aroma burner should also be cleaned whenever the scent changes.

If you missed the moment to remove the wax and it has already hardened, you can light the heater for a moment and wait until the wax melts slightly and then remove it, or place the fireplace under very warm tap water for a moment. You can also put the chimney with the hardened wax in the freezer, the wax will be easier to remove. Attention! Not every wax burner is suitable for placing in the freezer, so you can try this method at your own risk.

Can every oil burner be used for scented waxes?

It depends. Due to the fact that most scented waxes are colored, if your fireplace is e.g. made of clay and does not have a layer protecting against moisture absorption, the fireplace may become discolored. When choosing a scented wax fireplace, we should take into account the aesthetics of workmanship and colors matched to our preferences, but also answer a few questions. Do we care about the ease of cleaning the fireplace? Then it is worth choosing a fireplace with a removable bowl. Do we have a larger room or do we like strong scents? Then a fireplace with a larger bowl will work because we can simply fit more scented wax in it at once. Do we care about easy lighting of the heater? It's a good idea to look for a model with a fold-over top.

Which tealights should you choose for a scented fireplace?

Tealights for scented waxes must be unscented. We can choose from paraffin tealights or tealights made from vegetable waxes, e.g. soy wax. Remember to choose good quality tealights and always trim the wick to a length of approximately 5 mm before each lighting.
